Water & Sewer Main Flushing Program
TOWN OF VIRDEN
WATER & SEWER MAIN FLUSHING PROGRAM
The Town of Virden Utilities Department would like to inform the public that the annual water and sewer main flushing program will be beginning August 17, 2022, and will continue until mid-October. Residents are asked to watch for crews working in your area.
While crews are operating hydrants in your area to flush water mains, you may notice a loss in pressure. This is normal, but if low pressure continues for an extended period of time, residents are asked to contact the Town Office. Residents may also experience discoloured water during the flushing process. If you do experience discoloured water, run your tap with cold water until water runs clear. If discoloured water continues after a few minutes, please contact the Town Office.
Sewer Mains are flushed using high-pressure water to scour the interior of the sewer mains under the street. While crews are flushing sewer mains in your area, you may experience a bubbling, gurgling or spray coming from your toilets, shower/tub drains, or floor drains. If you are aware of crews working in your area, it is recommended that you close all toilet lids and place a cloth over your floor, tub and sink drains. Should you encounter more than a minor spray from this operation, please contact the Town Office.
If you have any other questions, comments or concerns regarding the flushing processes, please contact the Town of Virden Office at (204) 748-2440.
