The Town of Virden is looking for a candidate to fill the role of:


ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (EDM).


The EDM will find sustainable solutions to economic, social and environmental issues to build a healthy viable community. The EDM will work to create and encourage a environment that retains existing businesses and attracts new ones to the Town of Virden.

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the EDM is responsible for facilitating community economic development planning initiatives that are consistent with town bylaws and land use policies. The job will entail identifying and fostering economic development opportunities and partnerships and securing funding for economic development programs and projects. The EDM will promote the community in order to expand economic development opportunities.

  • Facilitation and presentation skills
Qualifications
A Community Economic Development degree or diploma or equivalent background education. Minimum of 2 years previous experience working in municipal government or with an economic development organization is preferred.  The successful candidate will plan to complete the Economic Development Training Program as made available by the Economic Developers Association of Manitoba.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT GROUP COORDINATOR POSITION

The Westman Emergency Group (Town of Virden, RM of Sifton – including Town of Oak Lake and the RM of Wallace-Woodworth – including Town of Kenton and the Village of Elkhorn) is presently seeking an individual to fill the role of Emergency Management Group Coordinator. 

You would be the leader of a team of dedicated volunteers who would come together in the event of a natural or man made disaster or event.  You would help manage the needs of others during a time of community distress.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
JOB POSTING – PLANT OPERATOR II

The Town of Virden has an immediate opening for a Plant Operator II for the Water and Wastewater Department.

This is a position in the Waterworks Department, but the individual could be required to assist in other departments if necessary.

This position requires an individual that is in good health and capable of carrying out the physical requirements of the job.  A Grade Twelve Diploma and a valid Class 5 Manitoba drivers license is necessary.  Class II Certification by Manitoba Sustainable Development for water treatment and distribution as well as sewage treatment and collection is required.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

-         Operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, sewage lift station,
          sewage collection system, water distribution and water wells

-         Weekend, shift work, call outs and on-call duties as required

-         Supervision of junior staff, training, reading and installation of water meters

-         Safe and efficient operation of miscellaneous equipment

-         Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

-         Two years’ experience in the operation of a Water or Wastewater Treatment facility

-         Experience in the operation and maintenance of a Sewage Collection and a Water Distribution system

Current starting wage ranges from $17.53 to $23.55 per hour dependent upon experience, education and qualifications.

The position is generally scheduled for 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend shifts every third weekend.  These hours and shifts could vary depending on requirement of the Employer, weather or other circumstances.
